Support In School
Below we've broken down all of the resources detailing the support that is available for children and young people throughout school, but if you have any additional questions please get in touch.
Support for Children with Special Educational Needs at School
The Children and Families Act and SEND Code of Practice place legal duties on schools to use their best endeavours to make sure that a child with SEN gets the support they need – this means doing everything they can to meet children and young people’s SEN. See more about this duty, an explanation on school funding and information about getting help in exams here.
Choosing a School or College
There’s a lot to think about when choosing a new school. Here you can read suggestions of things to look for and questions you might want to ask.
Home to School Transport
In some cases the local authority is responsible to make free home to school travel arrangements. It is not dependent on having an EHC plan. Read about eligibility here.
Exclusions from School
Unfortunately, children with special educational needs are excluded from school much more often than children without special educational needs. Read more about steps school must take and what you can do here.
Good communication with schools / colleges is very important. Here are some tips about ways to communicate, even if you are unhappy.
What If I Don't Agree?
See this section for steps you can take if you are not happy with a school’s decisions about SEN.
